A modest addition, thoughtfully placed. A home reimagined for the long haul.

This project proves that aging in place doesn't mean compromising on design. By combining a compact addition with a series of considered interior renovations, KR Architecture and Design helped the homeowners create a residence built to support them — comfortably and gracefully — for decades to come.

The new addition tucks in a dedicated bathroom and laundry area, transforming daily routines from a source of friction into a simple convenience, while quietly reinforcing the home's long-term accessibility.

Inside, the kitchen was reborn with intention. Rather than starting from scratch, existing cabinetry was preserved and thoughtfully paired with new, matching pieces — expanding storage and function while keeping the room's character intact. A under-counter microwave replaces the standard overhead unit, making everyday meal prep safer and more accessible. The reworked layout opens up circulation, so the heart of the home moves as easily as the people living in it.

Upstairs, the floor plan was reconsidered from the ground up, creating a more adaptable arrangement that can flex with the homeowners' needs as they evolve over time.

The result is a home that works beautifully today — and is quietly, thoughtfully prepared for tomorrow.
